Free service which crosses over the Breede River giving you access to drive to Witsand. Operating hours are from 06:00 to 18:00 every day of the week. Opposite Infanta on the other side of the mouth of the Breede River lies Witsand, it's a small coastal town often referred to as the Whale Nursery of South Africa, the town attracts a remarkable number of southern right whales between June and November each year.

You are in a prime location for birdwatching, particularly for seabirds and coastal species. The area, especially Malgas Island and the West Coast National Park, boasts a diverse range of birdlife, including breeding colonies of Cape gannets and various cormorant species. The national bird of South Africa, the Blue Crane, can be spotted in the Malgas in abundance and they absolutely fantastic to see.
To fish legally in Malgas, particularly on the Breede River, you need a recreational fishing permit. This permit is required for both freshwater fishing (inland waters like dams and rivers) and for fishing from a boat in the estuary. You can purchase these permits online or from a post office.
You can get to the last 2 pubs by boat and they have mooring available for free but don't forget Grunters where you might just meet the Mayor of Malgas!
